Lakeside town full of historical interest

Hikone City of Shiga Prefecture is 50 minutes from Kyoto, 80 minutes from Osaka, close to major cities of the Kansai region, and overlooks Japan’s largest and oldest Lake Biwa. The streets retain the feeling of a castle town that flourished during the Edo period (1603-1868), giving a tasteful atmosphere of deep history and culture. A diversified and leisured travel style of “see, eat, and play” can be enjoyed with Hikone Castle, also known as the symbol of Hikone City first on the list followed by Japan’s prominent historical cultural assets, local gourmet including Omi Beef, activities at Lake Biwa.
